Your Questions
A crown preparation requires more reduction of tooth structure than an onlay. However, if there is not adequate remaining tooth structure, a crown may be the only alternative. CEREC technology can be used to make all porcelain crowns in some cases. Dr Crumb and Dr Craybas prefer to conserve healthy tooth structure whenever possible so if there is enough enamel left we prefer to do CEREC onlays which we feel are more esthetic in back teeth and very long lasting.
